ماهواره‌ی اتصال ایالات متحده‌ی ناآگاهی
فاتر و درمانگر و جداً اعتیادآور
میزان‌شماری که متادون رو
بیست و چهار ساعته
از ۱۵۰ کانال پمپاژ میکنه
میتونی همه رو از اول تا آخر ورق بزنی
ولی چیز به درد بخوری برای دیدن پیدا نمیکنی
تی‌وی، اون عاملیه که باعث میشه:
— که کمتر از ده درصد ملت ما روزانه کتاب میخونه
— که بیشتر مردم فکر میکنن آمریکای مرکزی یعنی ایالت کانزاس
— که سوسیالیسم یعنی اجنبیِ غیرآمریکایی
— که آپارتاید یعنی یه نوع مُسکن برای سردرد
غرقِ عالم خودشه، اصلا بی‌خیالِ ماس
البت ذهن ما رو از همه بیشتر شکل میده
مگه مادر ملت خودش به ما هالی کنه
که زیادی نشستیم نزدیکِ این...

تی‌وی، پاتق کاندیدهای سیاست‌باز
اونجا که عقابای قلابی
خرس‌های تو جنگل رو دنبال می‌کنن

ریموت‌کنترل سیاسیِ مکانیزه برای مهار توده‌ها
با حمایت مالی از طرف گازهای سالم زیست محیطی
میگی نه نگاه کن به برنامه‌ی ویژه‌ی پی‌بی‌سی
استمرار سیستمِ دو حزبی
جایی که صورت آدما تقدم داره به سواد اونها
جایی که ریزلقمه‌های سیاسی
خورانده میشه به فرهنگ فَست‌فود
جایی که دندونای صاف و مرتب
از حرفای که از دهن بیرون میاد مهمتره
تحریک نژادی، راهِ انتخاب شدن!
یا ویلی هورتُن میشی
یا انتخاب نمیشی

بازتاب دهنده‌ست یا که خط دهنده‌ست؟
اون از ما تقلید میکنه
یا این ماییم که از اون تقلید میکنیم؟
چون هر بچه‌ای ۱۵۰۰ مورد قتل تماشا میکنه قبل از اینکه به سن ۱۲ سالگی برسه
و بعد تعجب میکنیم که نسلی بی‌خیال بار آوردیم
که یاد میگیره بجای اینکه از صحنه‌های وحشتناک بیزار باشه
برعکس نیشش از خنده باز شه
تی‌وی،
جایی که ژنرال‌های پشت‌میزنشین و خط حمله‌های زپرتی
هیجان بازی‌های ویدئویی رو
همراه با موزیک متن
از نزدیک تجربه میکنن
شوهای بامزه‌ی شیرین‌شکلاتی و طعم یه بازیگر بد
یا ستاره‌های پاپ که بدل میشن به ستاره‌های کوکاکولا
هم ویدئو رو دیدی
هم آهنگش رو شنیدی
خیلی خب حالا برو نوشیدنیِ فیلم رو بخر
– راستش تنها کولایی (C.O.L.A) که من طرفدارشم اینه:

که زیرکانه بین سینه‌های درشت تبلیغات آبجو و ماشین پنهان شده
TNT, ABC, ESPN, CNN اما از همه بیشتر .B.S (گُه و کثافت)
جایی که حرفهای ضد و نقیضی مثل «مجازاً بی‌لکه»
«تازه و یخ زده» «سبُک ولی شکم پُر کن» «فضیلت نظامی»
به عباراتی رایج بدل شده
تی‌وی،
جایی که عبارات بازتعریف میشن:
مثلا «رکود اقتصادی» به «کاهش ضروری» بدل می‌شه،
«نفت خام» روی ساحل به «موس شکلات»،
«مرگ غیرنظامیان» به «خسارات جانبی»
و کشته‌شدن بدست ارتش کشورت حالا «آتش خودی» خوانده میشه
تی‌وی، جایی که جستجوی سعادت به جستجوی مهملات بدل شده
جایی که خمیر دندان و ماشین به ابزار جنسی بدل شده
جایی که قدرت تخیل از مغز بچه‌ها با پستانکی از پرتو کاتدها مکیده شده
تی‌وی تنها دایه‌ی افلیج پرور
تی‌وی، داروی تخدیر ملت

 watch for the PBS special
 It’s the perpetuation of the two party system
 where image takes precedence over wisdom
 Where sound bite politics are served to
 the fastfood culture
 Where straight teeth in your mouth
 are more important than the words
 that come out of it
 Race baiting is the way to get selected
 Willie Horton or
 Will he not get elected on . . .

 T.V. is it the reflector or the director?
 Does it imitate us or do we imitate it
 Because a child watches 1500 murders before he’s
 twelve years old and we wonder how we’ve created
 a Jason generation that learns to laugh
 rather than abhor the horror
 T.V. is the place where
 armchair generals and quarterbacks can
 experience first hand
 the excitement of video warfare
 as the theme song is sung in the background
 Sugar sweet sitcoms
 that leave us with a bad actor taste while
 pop stars metamorphosize into soda pop stars
 You saw the video
 You heard the soundtrack
 Well now go buy the soft drink
 Well, the only cola that I support
 would be a union C.O.L.A. (Cost of Living Allowance)
 On Television.

 we return to our irregularly programmed schedule
 hidden cleverly between heavy breasted
 beer and car commericals
 CNN ESPN ABC TNT but mostly B.S.
 Where oxymoronic language like
 “virtually spotless” “fresh frozen”
 “light yet filling” and “military intelligence”
 have become standard
 T.V. is the place where phrases are redefined
 like “recession” to “necessary downturn”
 “crude oil” on a beach to “mousse”
 “Civilian death” to “collateral damages”
 and being killed by your own Army
 is now called “friendly fire”
 T.V. is the place where the pursuit
 of happiness has become the pursuit of trivia
 Where toothpaste and cars have become sex objects
 Where imagination is sucked out of children
 by a cathode ray nipple
 T.V. is the only wet nurse
 that would create a cripple
